For the past couple years, my parents have been bringing home roasted peanuts still in their shell during an indian festival called Lohri. I deeply enjoyed the process of breaking and eating it. However, after observing my dad's unlimited appetite for this snack I decided to look into its nutritional facts. Although peanuts are rich in fiber and protein, we must be careful of what we eat.

“Peanuts are not low in calories because they're energy-dense. But as long as you watch your portions, eating them may help you lose weight-It may seem a little odd that the same food can be good for losing and gaining weight. But while it's true, a few peanuts may help curb your appetite, they provide extra calories and encourage weight gain when eaten in larger amounts”. (verywell.com)

My family has been eating huge amounts of these extremely tasty peanuts not knowing how much they are contributing to our weight gain. One cup of peanuts is 854 calories! That’s almost 45% of the total amount of calories someone my age should be eating in an entire day.

Next year, I am going to ensure my family and I eat enough roasted peanuts to keep us satisfied and not have an adverse impact our weight.
