Since the day I was born, I hated tomatoes. My parents tried their very best to try to get me to eat this vegetable in the past, but nothing worked and eventually they gave up. However, my dad still makes me order burgers with tomatoes inside of them so that he can save 10 cents and enjoy eating this vegetable, instead of ordering the burger without the tomato and have to pay the same price. Today, after many years of strategically avoiding my least favourite vegetable, I decided to research its benefits. One of the most important things that a tomato can give you is Lutein and Zeaxanthin which helps strengthen your eyes by protecting your retina from damage, especially in UV rays. These vitamins can also help improve your skin by making it look a lot smoother.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zeaxanthin
Zeaxanthin is an eye vitamin that migrates to the eyes and is drawn into the retina (especially the macula and fovea). In the retina, helps build the yellow macular pigment shield that protects eye cells from dangerous light frequencies, like UV rays from the sun. Zeaxanthin also provides a lot of antioxidant activity by removing the free radicals that destroy cells in our eyes.
Lycopene
Lycopene is a vitamin that is not manufactured inside the human body, so it is important that we include it into our diet so that we receive all of the benefits. It is also a phytochemical that gives tomatoes their red color. The redder the tomato, the more lycopene is present. This can help improve many areas of your body with its oxidant properties like your eyes and skin. Although there are many other foods with Lycopene in it, like watermelon and grape fruit, when tomatoes are ingested in the form of soup and other cooked forms, they release three times more Lycopene than any of these fruits.
