I decided to start re-reading the book that got me interested in nutrition, Eat To Live by Joel Fuhrman. This fact I am about to share has stayed with me through the past couple years because it was very surprising and interesting.

Meats, dairy, and oily foods contain a lot of calories that makes it very difficult for us to eat them without consuming an excess amount of calories. Although these foods consume a lot of your daily calorie intake, they fill up our stomachs slowly. Foods with a lower amount of calories and a higher amount of nutrients will make it easier for us to satisfy our hunger without eating an excess amount of calories. These foods include various fruits, vegetables, and beans.

"Appetite is not controlled by the weight of the food but by fiber, nutrient density, and caloric density." (Fuhrman 117)

Next time you start eating a meal or a snack, you should check to see if what you're eating will satisfy your hunger without consuming too much of your daily calorie intake.
